MUSIC ONTARIO presents: Money! Making a living making music – Toronto

On the forefront of most artists’ minds is one simple question: How can I make a living making music? A shift from buying to streaming, touring costs increasing, and competition for the entertainment dollar has certainly made financial success more difficult.

Still, there are artists out there doing it. A big part of their success is being aware of all of the revenue streams that are available, as well as how to maximize each and every one. In this panel, we’ll take a closer look at an artist’s career to pinpoint the various opportunities for monetization.

We’ll have an added focus on the often uncollected royalty revenues from organizations like SOCAN and ACTRA RACS, as well as emerging revenue streams from the likes of YouTube and more.

Panelists:

Rodney Murphy – SOCAN
Lee-Anne Wielonda –
Benji Rogers –
Liam Killeen – Coalition Music
